History
DPI Plastics has a long history, dating back from 1987 when negotiations started for the merging of Duropenta (AECI) and Paxit Pipekor (Everite). A brief synopsis of company milestones is presented below:

2007

  • Top 300 national company award for DPI Plastics.
  • Incledon - the trading division of DPI - acquires DPI-Kwanzi in Durban , DPI-Phumela in the Western and Southern Cape, and DPI-Motown in the Eastern Cape , effectively establishing a national footprint under the Incledon banner.
  • DAWN places first in the Business Times Top 100 Companies survey.


2006

  • Top 300 national company award for DPI Plastics.
  • Incledon celebrates 100 years in existence.
  • DPI acquires Fibrex, a PVC manufacturer in Angola.
  • DPI Simba receives award for Best Performing Company in the DPI Group and increases capacity with new PVC extrusion line.
  • DPI Simba wins Presidents Manufacturer of the Year Award ( Tanzania ).
  • Distribution and Warehousing Network (DAWN) acquires 100% of DPI Plastics.
  • DAWN achieves 4th place in Business Times Top 100 survey


2005

  • DPI Simba increases capacity with new HDPE extrusion line.
  • HIV/AIDS “Know you status” campaign sees DPI employees participate in Prevalence Survey and Voluntary Counseling and Testing.
  • Roodekop factory is accredited as a training institution by MERSETA and over 60 extrusion machine operators undergo training as part of DPIs BBBEE skills development program.
  • DPI Plastics participates at first PVC congress in Brazil hosted by the Brazilian Institute of PVC.
  • TPM (Total Productive Management) international strategy adopted in order to achieve operational excellence in all aspects of the company.
  • Top 300 national company award for DPI Plastics.
  • DPI Group launches TekFlo - a range of trading goods including valves and ductile iron pipe and fittings


2003

  • Established Incledon-DPI (Pty) Ltd, a black empowered trading company.
  • Established DPI-Phumela Trading (Pty) Ltd, a black empowered trading company.
  • Established Boseng (Pty) Ltd through the merging of the DPI Plastics fittings fabrication business with a black empowered business.
  • Introduced Durothene range of HDPE drainage and ducting products.
  • Namibia subsidiary, NPC achieved ISO 9001-2000 accreditation.
  • Botswana subsidiary Pipex Plastics achieved ISO 9001 - 2000 accreditation.
  • Bellville and Roodekop plants in South Africa upgraded QMS to ISO 9001-2000 accreditation.


2002

  • Developed new spec 110mm SV fittings range (12 new products).
  • Established DPI-Motown (Pty) Ltd in the Eastern Cape.
  • Upgraded pressure and non-pressure fabrication facilities to provide ready made solutions.
  • Introduced new Ultracor Multi-Layer Sewer and Drain Systems.
  • Successfully commissioned and introduced Gemini-Biax PVC-O Pressure Pipe System (under Uponor Licence).


2001

  • Joint Venture Company DPI-Simba in Tanzania was established.
  • Entered into a Product Technology Agreement with Uponor, one of the leading pipe manufacturing companies in Europe.
  • Achieved 28% of turnover outside of South Africa.


2000

  • Joint Venture company DPI-Oregon in Zimbabwe formed.
  • Launch of 450 and 500mm PVC pressure pipe.
  • SABS ISO 9002 accreditation for Pipex Plastics Botswana achieved.
  • Started upgrade programme for polyethylene capability.
  • Achieved NOSA 5 Star Safety rating at Bellville Factory.


1999

  • Introduced new product range - ribbed fittings for sewer and drain.
  • Consolidated the Roodekop and Chamdor factories on the Roodekop site and facilitated the closure of the Chamdor factory.
  • Registered DPI International Limited in Mauritius as the investment arm of DPI Holdings.


1998

  • Acquired total shareholding of Pipex Plastics Botswana (Pty) Ltd.
  • DPI Plastics awarded the Group Five Chairman’s award for excellent performance in respect of Profit Before Tax.


1997

  • DPI Plastics awarded the “Technology Top 100” award by the Engineering Association of South Africa for Ultraflo PVC-M.


1996

  • Sold PVC-M technology through a licence agreement to Hardie Iplex Australia.


1995

  • Achieved SABS ISO 9002 accreditation for Chamdor fitting factory.


1994

  • Introduced new PVC-M Ultraflo product.


1992

  • Introduced new product Corflo double walled sewer and drainage pipe.
  • Achieved SABS ISO 9002 accreditation for extrusion factories.


1991

  • Introduced new product - Ice Blue Mineflo pipe.


1990

  • Purchased Agriplas in Bellville. Agreement with Ribloc Australia.


1989

  • Start of replacement and upgrade programme.


1988

  • Merger of Duropenta (AECI) and Paxit Pipekor (Everite).


1987

  • Rationalisation of PVC pipes and fittings industry i.e. mergers, acquisitions and reduction of capacity and players.
